Skin conditions can vary and may cause concern for many of us. Such concerns may include hyperpigmentation, acne and rosacea, dull and uneven skin tone.

Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition but can be difficult to treat. It occurs as a result of an increase in melanin which is the natural substance that is responsible for the colour of the skin.

An example of hyperpigmentation is melasma which appears on the face, cheeks, and forehead and above the top lip. Malesma is associated with hormones and sometimes appear during pregnancy due to excessive amount of oestrogen. This may also happen in child baring women who are on the contraceptive pill.

Hyper pigmentation can affect anyone; however it is seen in darker skin that naturally produces more melanin. Another cause is post inflammatory hyper pigmentation.

Hyper pigmentation can affect confidence however, there are treatments specially designed to address this issue.

Acne can occur from early teenage years and may continue to adulthood.

Acne can cause inflammation that develops in the red or purple marks left behind after acne begins to heal, causes skin cells to produce more melanin leaving unsightly marks on the skin. These can remain on the skin for months, sometimes even years.

Rosacea is a progressive condition that mainly affects the face. This reoccurring condition can also be found on the eyes, nose, forehead and the chin. It is important to treat the condition with the appropriate product.

Rosacea seems effects the ages of 30-50 years and less common in the younger people. There may also be a genetic link associated with the condition. There are several trigger factors that include stress, extreme weather, hot drinks, alcohol, cheese, and spicy food. Sun rays can also trigger rosacea where exposed areas of the skin are most affected.

Unlike acne, the pimples in rosacea are not typically tender and do not scar. The skin of a rosacea sufferer may become thickened as the condition progresses and this is not seen in acne prone skin.

We offer various treatment options to manage skin concerns.

Medical Skin Needling

IMG-8778

Medical-needling is a proven method of improving the texture of the skin, and delivers long-lasting results. The device is an electric unit for micro-needling the skin and can deliver multiple vertical microscopic channels. The micro needles penetrate the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin.

IMG-8779

This in turn stimulates the natural production of collagen. In addition it creates a pathway for the introduction of powerful effective skin formulations to maximise the treatment. The microscopic channels close after an hour post treatment.

The single use micro-needles are made from top medical grade stainless steel and are sterilised and packed for safety and efficiency.
The electric medical needling device penetrates the skin at a 90 degree angle with a rapid motion thereby, reducing the pain of epidermal penetration as experienced with the dermal rolling treatment.

IMG-8780

Medical needling triggers wound healing response in the cells of the dermis to self repair and regenerate.

This controlled trauma increases natural production of collagen. The journey of natural collagen production takes approximately 4-6 weeks before the effects are visible on the surface.

Medical skin needling can restore skin concerns with similar results to laser resurfacing with little or no side effects or downtime.

Frequently asked questions

What happens during the medical skin needling treatment?
An in-depth consultation is made to explain the treatment and to ascertain suitability of the client. A full medical history is taken into account. The consultation will also help to manage the client’s expectations.
Photographs may also be taken at the initial treatment and during each treatment to monitor progress of the treatment.
Once the client is happy with the information that they have been supplied with, understood the treatment that they have chosen they will have and have ample opportunity to ask as many questions they will then agree to the treatment by signing an informed consent to commence the treatment.

How long does the treatment last?
The treatment takes approximately 60-90minutes depending on the area as that procedure may require the application of a local anaesthetic that needs time to induce its effects and cleansing prior to the actual treatment.
Does the treatment hurt?

The skin is cleaned and disinfected. A topical anaesthetic numbing cream is then applied to the treatment area to make the procedure more comfortable providing you have no history of allergic reaction to anaesthetic products.
Once the skin is numb it is cleaned once again to remove any anaesthetic cream from the treatment area. A glide medium is applied to the treatment area prior to passing the medical needling device. The medical needling device is passed over the skin to create micro channels creating controlled trauma or injury to the skin. The micro channels and the injuries are tiny; they will close rapidly leaving the flushed. This is a good indicator that that treatment has been effective.

What to expect after the treatment?
• Immediately post treatment, the client will look as if they have moderate to severe sunburn. The skin maybe slightly warm with a tight sensation. These experiences are normal and usually subside within 1-3 hours. The effects diminish within 24 hours.
• Slight redness may be experienced after 24 hours but in localised areas.
• The practitioner will discuss any post treatment advise and skin care needs to help to sooth and protect the skin.
• The skin should be treated gently and routine skincare can be re-established after 3 days.

How many treatments will I need?
Positive results can be seen approximately one week after the treatment. Some improvement is seen after a single treatment. However, a program of 4-6 sessions is recommended between 2-2.5 months apart to achieve best results combined with effective skincare.

When will I see results?
It can take up to 4-8 weeks before visible signs of skin regeneration can be seen and the process will continue through the following months thereby creating a gradual and progressive improvement.
After the course of recommended treatments improvements will continue for 6-12 months.

How safe is Medical Needling?
Medical skin needling is a safe procedure with minimal risks, side effects and downtime as it depends on stimulating the body’s own natural healing mechanism. The needles are used in the procedure are individually packed and sterile. They are designed for single use and therefore disposable to avoid any risk of cross contamination.

What are the side effects?
Medical skin needling is associated with low risks and side effects. The skin may look flushed for approximately 2 hours similar to that of sunburn. Pinprick marks of blood or bruising may be present. There may also be a warm and tight sensation accompanied with a slight it for about a couple of days.
Some may experience minor flaking, dryness of the skin and scab formation.
Rarely hyper pigmentation which is the dark patches of the skin may happen. However this is usually resolved within 4 weeks.
It is important that the practitioner is aware of any history of cold sores in order to provide effective advice regarding the appropriate medication to prevent an outbreak.

What should be done post treatment?
A detailed after care information will be given to every client.
It is vital that the client follows the recommendations in the information provided to maximise effects.
It is recommended that tepid water is used to cleanse the skin for the first 3 days post treatment and gently dab the cleansed area dry instead of rubbing.

Application of cosmetics should be avoided for the first 24 hours; however the use of mineral makeup may be suitable. Ensure that the tools used to apply makeup are clean.
Ensure a high protection broad spectrum sun cream (UVA/UVB) with a minimum SPF of 30 immediately after the treatment and thereafter. High SPF should be applied routinely as part of skin protection.
Recommendation on skin care products will be provided by your practitioner.

• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight for at least 24 hours post treatment.
• Do not use tanning beds.
• Do not exercise or apply strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post treatment as sweating and gym environment may be present an entry point to bacteria which in turn lead to adverse reactions.

• Have used Roaccutane (Isotretinoin) within the last 3 months.
• Have open wounds, cuts or abrasions to the skin.
• Have had radiation treatment within the last year.

• Are pregnant or breast feeding.
• Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scars or poor wound healing.
• Have a history of blood thinning or currently receiving medications to thin the blood.

Who can carry these treatments?
Search engine shows that it is possible to purchase skin needling devices for home use. Apart from the nourishing benefits, the procedure also promotes the production of collagen and elastin which rejuvenates the skin and stimulates its metabolism. After 3 or 4 treatments, the skin takes on a wonderful luminescence and becomes plumper and firmer.

Benefits:

  • Smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Revitalizes dull complexion
